dd is 4 weeks old and a frequent feeder. however tonight she appears to be going for some kind of record, having basically been swapping boobs since approx 2o'clock this afternoon, pausing only for the odd burp and nappy change. She's been yawning her head off since about 1130 am but is fighting sleep and shows no sign of giving in even now! i feel as though there cannot possibly be any more milk left in my body but she seems determined to drain every last drop and just screams whenever she is off the breast.

I know I just have to get through what is looking like being a very long night and there's not a lot i can do, but please just humour me and send some sympathy vibes my way as i am about to go fucking insane. Please tell me i'm not the only one to have bellowed SHUT THE FUCK UP into a pillow (so the neighbours don't think i'm crazy!)???

Oh dear. She must give up soon mustn't she? I remember DD2 did this, she was 3-4 weeks old. Every so often I'd take a 15 minute break and try and distract her, then back to it.

But she did flake out eventually. Is she your first? If you don't have to get up for anyone else tomorrow you must have a loooong lie in, the pair of you. Don't feel you have to be up because it's daytime, as any shift worker will tell you - if you don't sleep at night, then sleep in the day.

Been there got the t-shirt, IT WILL GET BETTER. Master the art of feeding and lying down turn it into a positive and read a book. If you have someone with you get them to take the baby for a while. Try sticking your thumb in your baby's mouth instead of your nipple. I feel so sorry for you exhaustion is crippling but when you persevere with this breastfeeding malarky you will be so proud of yourself. God I remember the sheer insanity of the early weeks.

yes my first, and only at this rate

quite willing to grab sleep where i can. Just waiting for the opportunity to present itself - surely she's got to give in soon!

taczilla the thumb is rejected with the kind of disdain that should be beyond a four week old child!

Went through a similar patch when she was first born and milk supply being established so at least i know what this is this time, its just so bloody frustrating. Venting on here is very helpful!

ah the classic feedathons! least you can type and bf .

And yes, feeding lying down is good. As is crazy pattern of napping for you. i expect you to sleep from 8am to midday tomorrow

Bendi · 16/02/2008 01:05

Agree with Slur, at least you can type - God know how... Stick with it - maybe she'll be 3 inches longer tomorrow & you'll both get sonme sleep.

Go to bed, snuggle up & lay on your back so you don't squish your little vampire.

Just keep screaming into the pillows (it worked for me, with the odd sob) & remember, this will pass & you can buy always buy new pillows.

OMG guys thanks for the vibes which must have done something as shortly before 1 dd launched imto marathon sleeping session and has just woken - at 6 oclock!!!!! - for the next one! Only disadvanage being that i appear to have been sleeping in a milk-filled swimming pool for the past couple of hours looking at the state of the bed

Chief, I've also shouted SHUT UP to ds
You are not alone!
I've still been having some teary moments when I feel I cannot cope with him because I don't know why he is crying.
But I get reassured by MN that it will get better

chiefcookandbottlewasher · 16/02/2008 12:25

how's it going turtle? Obviously, i persevered with the bfing! actually i really enjoy it now, i just have the odd moment of madness (see above!!) has ds's feeding settled down a bit yet?
