I changed mine over night - no problems with the milk in my experience - but watch out for the constipation ! No-one warned me about that, so couln't work out why DS was screaming for hours one night. A friend suggested the constipation, so basically, I gave him 2oz of boiled water with freshly squeezed orage juice in it (not much, half an orange made c.3 bottles) between feeds, and the constipation stopped straight away. Not sure if this helps !

Aptamil is good (I was using SMA at first, made ds really windy) just swap it over, mine didn't suffer with constipation but watch out for it. Gripe water is good for when they're suffering. I used to pop a spoonful or two in the bottle after it was finished and let him drink it from there rather than mess about with spooning it in.

When you're winding him make sure his back is straight so the bubble can come up the pip iyswim. Try "weebling" him round on your knee to dislodge the bubble of air, or walk up and down the stairs with him on your shoulder. Try lying him on his front over your knee too, or bicycling his legs.

Cow and gate do a gentle formula so do aptamil (they are made by the same people!) it is a hydrolised formula which means the proteins are smaller and easier to digest, we use the Aptamil one as DS had bad colic and vomits a lot!!! also Infacol do a prebiotic colic drop and it worked better than the normal one.
Change over from first feed in the morning, the gentle formulas are not as sweet as the other one so do it from first feed in the day..
Good luck

I also changed from SMA to Aptamil and had no probs. Grunting and not sleeping for a 3 wk old - sounds quite normal to me! Keeping winding the wee fella and see how you go!

You shouldnt have any problems changing the milk, it's something formula companies try saying to keep you using their product so don't worry about that, just change over when you next give baby a bottle.
