Hi all,

I weighed my little one today who is 3 years and 6 months.

she is 100cm and weighs 19kg.

she doesn’t look big just solid. If that makes any sense.

i’m so worried.. thinking she is overweight.

anyone out there in a similiar situation?

we haven’t seen health visitor in ages.. had no concerns till now.

skyG2023 · 08/04/2023 14:52

The NHS usually has a kids BMI checker, but it's "being updated and temporarily unavailable" right now. It's worth searching for in a bit and putting exact details in there.

Looking at the WHO growth charts, she's about 50th for height, and just over 91st for weight. So, yes, probably could do with not putting more weight on until she has grown a bit taller.

@CatOnTheChair thanks for that. Will try the bmi calculator when its working. Thank you for who growth chart

It's very important for parents to ensure their children don't end up with a weight problem but, that being said, my dd was a bit chubby and hardly ate anything. She grew up to be slender. The important thing is to make she is eating mostly healthy food and getting lots of exercise

Triffid14 · 08/04/2023 15:24

My little girl is same age and height and is 16kg. However, her friend is same age and height and is 20kg. Her friend doesn’t look heavier than her or overweight at all. I think my DD is pretty skinny for that so it sounds like yours is a healthy weight for her size.

skyG2023 · 08/04/2023 18:37

Hi @Triffid14 aw thanks for that. I feel better 😊

thank you @Coyoacan i’ll make sure all her snacks are always healthy too.

My DS used to grow in spurts so just when we were about to start being concerned about his weight, he'd shoot it again.

I'd leave it a couple of weeks before worrying to see if she grows but just try to limit sugar in that time.

This guide might be helpful as it shows suggested portion sizes Wink

My DD is 3 months older. Last time I measured her she was 103 cm and 17.7kg. She is probably taller now as it’s a couple of months since I’ve measured her.

The important thing is she following her curve in her red book?

My son is 3 years old in May and he's 90cm and 16kg. He's the size of the 4 year olds at the childminders but he looks in proportion so I'm not worried

My dd is the same weight and height (19kg and 100cm). She is 3 yrs 7months. I worry too as it comes out as ‘overweight’ on the bmi calculator but she is solid, tall and well built. Her dad is 6ft3
