Breastfed toddler loose stools now I’m pregnant

Hi there,

Just looking to see if anyone else has had a similar experience or could offer some advice.

Our 22mo DD has been having horrendous loose stools since January. They’re not so much watery, but are like soft and mushy and fill the whole nappy. And the smell is awful.

I originally thought it was to do with the new vitamin drops I had put her on and so took her off them, but it made no difference even 5-6 weeks later.

I’ve spoken to the GP and they’ve said it could be an intolerance but there haven’t been any recent changes in her diet, possibly to milk, and to trial no dairy for a few weeks.

She eats really well and still has breast milk morning and night. The only thing that has changes since January is that I am now pregnant so I’m wondering if the pregnancy might be impacting my milk. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance!

I didn't experience this when feeding through pregnancy.
Could gp do a stool sample test?
Congrats on pregnancy and we'll done for continuing to feed xx

Has she had an illness at all? Sometimes they can develop secondary lactose intolerance after having a sick bug.

I BF when pregnant and DC decided to self-wean as they didn't like the change in taste back to colostrum, kept hitting my boob and trying again then pulling a disgusted face Blush

Milk composition can change but by its very nature, breast milk shouldn't negatively impact your DC's digestion unless it's an allergy

I love that they thought the boob was faulty and hitting it would be like a reset! Grin

Thanks all for the responses so far. She hasn’t had a bug or anything, and have sent a sample off via the gp and it came back clear. Just very strange how it’s suddenly happened. Will see how the diary free diet goes for 2 weeks anyway!
