How did you get your baby to drink neocate!?

Baby is now on neocate but just refuses to drink it! He’s nearly 5 months. Any tips/tricks would be most helpful! Thanks!

You can put some vanilla extract in it to help it taste better.

Off the record I was told a little bit of Nesquick in it helps.

I managed to keep breast feeding so didn't use it in the end but had a tin and some Nesquick on hand if ever needed.

V difficult. Mine would only drink it while asleep.

Runninghappy · 16/03/2023 21:54

I mixed it with breast milk and did it very gradually. Literally 1oz neocate and the rest breast milk. Took a long time to fully change over but she was completely drinking it by 18 months. She’s 14 now!

Not helpful but I gave up, 2 weeks in he wasn't drinking it and was starving!!! He was off formula before one thankfully

SassyPants87 · 18/03/2023 11:12

@somethingslastforever what did you end up doing then? Putting back on normal formula?

@SassyPants87 yeah I found HiPP the most agreeable. Not ideal but even the HV said it's hard to get them to take to it when they've had normal formula for months. When weaning I stopped using dairy products in cooking too

SassyPants87 · 18/03/2023 12:53

@somethingslastforever how old was your baby when you tried the neocate? I’m so tempted to back to normal formula too. He was on goats milk formula for a bit and he wasn’t actually too bad on it but still not 100%. Just want to get weaning and onto food, milk feeds are driving me crazy!

I had to add sugar free Crusha to it to get my daughter to take it! They had chocolate and strawberry flavour and it worked - got it from ASDA.

Mine's been on it for 7 months and still is very reluctant to drink milk. I thought weaning would help but she rarely eats more than a dessert spoon. Over all she just seems to hate eating/ drinking. It takes ages to get anything into her.
Sorry I guess that's not really helpful.

@SassyPants87 sorry only seeing this now. I'd say around 4 months-ish.

i have early weaned and at 6m my baby now will have 3oz of Neocate per feed and then food. However, he more often than not rejects the bedtime bottle and then wakes in night. I hear the responses ‘maybe he’s not hungry if he’s weaned’. Well simply, if he has the bedtime bottle (even if dream fed), he sleeps through, if not, he wakes. Any suggestions?
