3 month old drinks very little formula

My 3 month old baby is over 7kg. He generally has 3-4oz a time, every fourish hours. He only has around 20-22oz a day.

Based on his weight, he should have about 35oz minimum. I'm not necessarily concerned because obviously he continues to grow, but does anyone have experience of a baby taking only a small amount of milk ?

My baby will be 5 months this coming Monday and only drinks between 20-25oz! It’s been a tough struggle to get him to drink much more. He has dropped 2 percentiles but stayed on 9th for a couple of months now. I think he just found his ‘natural’ weight and what he can manage to drink in a day.

as long as baby is following their line, wet and dirty nappies and seems content I would say just follow baby’s lead. Also if it helps Australia for some reason say babies should have 120ml per kg of weight as the amount of formula they should drink, so I just go by that and it makes me feel better lol

I think it would probably put my mind at rest it I could get him weighed. Thanks for the info about Australia, that does help! He has less than that but not by too much.

@Teafor1please apparently it’s only the UK that for some reason expects babies to take such high volumes. You can get baby weighed for peace of mind but it became a huge trigger for me and I ended up weighing weekly (I would NOT advice that) if there are concerns about weight you can weigh bi-weekly and then move to monthly. Some babies just aren’t big drinkers.

it also helps to look at what you and your partner are like.I’m 5ft2 and slim and hubby is 6ft2 and slim so my baby genetically isn’t likely to be a chubby baby.

Yup! My now one year old never went above 5 ounces a feed. It stressed me out so much in the early months, he came very close to developing a bottle aversion. He always drank between 20-25 ounces total a day. He always put on weight and even more so when he started food and went from 25th percentile to 45th. As long as your baby is putting on weight, ignore those recommendations on formula boxes etc. they’ll drink what they want to drink.

Thank you. I appreciate your post.

When I had my dd there were weigh clnics but in my area these no longer exist. I'd like to be able to just pop in and see his weight. Although looking at him I'm pretty sure he is !
