Suspected CMPA.. alter my diet or switch to special formula?

I'm in the hospital with my 6 week old who has suspected CMPA. The list of things to cut out my diet seems huge, I'm vegetarian as it is so it means basically becoming vegan. I'm anaemic too so I'm just worrying.

I feel guilty thinking of stopping breastfeeding but wondering if switching to the cmp free formula would be better for baby, no chance of me slipping up and eating something not realising it'll hurt him and for my own health

Does anyone have any experience of this, and what did you do? Thanks

I wondered if DD was so I cut it out for a few weeks, symptoms didn't improve so I reintroduced it.

If I were you id cut it and see how you get on, breastfeeding for most is a fairly short term thing (4 year and coughing here) and when you start giving baby food in 6 months you'll have to work out a allergy friendly life but eventually they will probably do the milk ladder at a year or two and you can have milk back too. If you can't cope with the extra limit on your diet then swap to formula, I think it's easier to got that way than swap to formula and wish you had tried to continue BFing.

I've not cut food for very long but I have lived without a full nights sleep for 2.5 years, at the time it felt like forever but with hindsight it wasn't that much in the grand scheme of things so I had another baby thinking I've done it before I can do it again (19 months and he doesn't sleep through but not as bad as the first. I'm totally fine with it).

Can you think in 1 year I can have cheese/milk again? How does that feel to just do one year without? You've done however many without meat and to me that's a really big deal!

I'm 15 months into feeding my second cmpa ( and egg and soya..) baby, I fed his brother who also had cmpa for 22 months so I haven't had dairy in over 3 years now 🙂

Nutritionally, breastmilk is even more beneficial in babies with allergies but there's absolutely nothing wrong with switching to formula if that's what you want to do.

I really recommend joining the group 'breastfeeding with CMPA and Other good allergies ' on Facebook. They've been a lifeline to me, especially in the early days and unfortunately most 'professionals' don't know their arse from their elbow.
