CMPA milk and solids

I’m trying to get DS (4 months) to take nutramigen and he just hates it! I’m really worried when we get to weaning that he’ll prefer food over awful tasting milk!

if your little one was on prescription formula were they okay drinking this whilst weaning onto solids?

I can wait for him to get to 1 so we can ditch formula!

My baby (nearly 12 months old) is on neocate (did a stint on Nutramigen but he ended up needing an amino acid formula). He still drinks it even though he eats food. He’s never been a huge milk drinker though (likely because of the taste). However, he absolutely loves food and we never had any problems weaning and he took to it straight away. Even with the small amounts of formula he drank, we managed to always keep him above the recommended minimum before a multivitamin was needed until very recently. As long as they are eating a decent amount to not be losing weight and you give a multivitamin if drinking less than 15 ounces I really wouldn’t worry about how much formula he drinks. In fact our baby started going up the percentiles when started weaning which we couldn’t believe and we always do our best to make things as nutritious as possible. High iron content, good amount of protein and good fats etc. He also now drinks oat milk which he loves and he will still take a bottle of neocate. I think once they’re used to it, it just becomes the norm for them.

@Pizzaandsushi how long was your baby on nutramigen before moving to Neocate? That’s really reassuring to know that your baby was still fine taking the prescription formula whilst on solids and great that he actually went up the percentiles too! Can’t wait for that to start happening for us!

He was on it for just over two months as the Infant Feeding team at my hospital said we needed to give it a while to see if it helped. He started on Nutramigen around 8 weeks old and moved over to Neocate when 5 months old so he has been on it most of his life but 4 months is still young and hopefully long enough before weaning he can get used to it without the addition of other tastes.

@Pizzaandsushi i’m wondering if it’s best to push for him to be put onto Neocate now rather than wait and see as like you said it still gives me a bit of time before weaning before we start solids and I’m just conscious he’s changed his formula so many times already. I almost just want to put him on the ‘fool proof’ one now to save us the pain of going through trial and error

Have you tried adding Vanilla essence or Nesquik @SassyPants87? Might make it more palatable.

@PritiPatelsMaker i could do, we’ve not been on nutramigen long but no signs of symptoms improving but I really don’t want to wait either and I’m tempted to just ask for the Neocate. I’m just fed up of all the trial and error and I really want baby to be established on the right milk before we wean onto solids
