CMPA?

Sorry this is going to be a bit of a long one but DS is 4 months old. First 2 months of his life he was EBF, I’m actually vegan so he never had any dairy through me. He was totally fine on this but BF journey was cut short as he has tongue tie that needed snipping twice and his latch still was never great so his weight was faltering and as result my supply was dwindling. I really didn’t want to pump either.

I moved him onto nanny care goats milk formula as heard it was easier to digest than cows milk formula. He was completely fine on this however was extremely constipated! I’ve tried to introduce cows milk formula the past couple of days but okay small amounts and he has broken out in a rash! (Pic attached)

I think he might have CMPA but is it possible for CMPA babies to also be fine on goats milk? The only thing is the constipation I can’t keep him on something that makes him constipated either.

CMPA?

Also it’s a lot more red in real life the pic seems to have dimmed it a bit

Hi,
I didn’t want to read and run.

My daughter has non-ige CMPA (delayed reaction) and we’ve known since she was 7 weeks.
We don’t have any experience with Goats Milk so can’t comment there.
Its very possible he could have CMPA - how are his dirty nappies? Any reflux since introducing the new formula? Stomach discomfort?

I would advise speaking to your GP ASAP, raising your concerns and asking for a referral to a Paediatrician - we had to see one before they would officially diagnose and provide a special formula - and it was during covid so took ages for an appointment. Unfortunately my daughter never took to it so we carried on breastfeeding and I cut dairy out of my diet.

Also get the rash seen to as he’ll need some sort of cream for it. We use Zerobase everyday and for any eczema flare ups we have a mild steroid cream. Aveeno Dermexa is also good for eczema if it is that.

If it is CMPA, the good thing is it has a high rate of children out growing it. My daughter is now able to tolerate some forms of dairy but we’re not quite at the point of all dairy yet.

Good luck and I hope the rash isn’t irritating him too much!

Has he got any other symptoms apart from the rash? I'm just wondering if it could be coincidence?

@PritiPatelsMaker his stomach has been gurgling and he’s been more windier! Not sure if that implies CMPA? Even if it’s not allergy I do think he definitely has some form of intolerance as prior to goats milk he was on cows milk formula with lots of digestive issues and bouts of eczema

In that case it does sound as though he may have CMPA.

@PritiPatelsMaker yeah I do think he has some form of intolerance/ allergy to cows milk. He’s been fine on goats milk apart from the constipation so I’m not sure if I should get him treated for the constipation (not feasible in the long run) or look to move him onto prescription hypoallergenic formula
