Pain in breast

Hello,

I have been breastfeeding for 10 weeks and all has gone well. However my ds has started sleeping from 8pm - about 4-5am (woo hoo) and both breasts have therefore been really full. This has not been a problem as I have also espressed when she has woken up. However today my right breast is really tender still, even though she has fed regularly (every 3 hours). It feels bruised down one side (arm pit side). I can't feel any blocked ducts but don't know whether I should be worried?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like the bf'ing is going great - well done you and ds

You will feel a blocked duct as it will feel like a lump. If it is that, keep on feeding and massage the lump out (ie roll the palm of your hand over the lump, from the top of the lump down towards the nipple)

The pain could just be your boobs adjusting to the change. I remember feeling twinges and flashes of pain for no particular reason, and never found out the cause.

Sorry I'm not much use !

I have had this from time to time, always on the same side (right). It has always settled down for me within 24 hours, however sometimes I have expressed twice to make it feel really "empty" iykwim.

I would imagine that if your ds continues in the same pattern (and there are no guarantees so I'll try not to be !) - both breasts will start to get less full during the night I expect, and be less uncomfortable in the morning.
