any info would be really helpful

when trained, would it involve going to meeting or helping via phone or going to peopls houses?

or would it just mainly to support friends and family

I'm a peer supporter - was trained through Sure start. The way we work it, mw's are meant to but usually forget ask their women at 12w if they are interested in bfeeding, if so the details are passed to Sure Start. Nearer term, details passed to us peers. We try to meet her once, so that if she has questions she can ask, but also so that she knows who we are and when at home all hormonal and knackered after the birth she won't feel like she'd calling a total stranger. Once she's had the baby we phone to see if she needs help, but basically if it's going well (or she comes out of hosiptal ffeeding) that's it - though we're available to her any time she needs until she stops bfeeding.

The NCT do BF counsellor training. Details on their website I think, and if you email them they'll send you an info pack.

All LLL groups have a folder you can borrow to read up on becoming an LLL leader (bfc). This page has more details about being a leader:
