Please help! 7 week old still having the runs at every feed since trying formula once

So a little bit of a back story:

Gave birth to my son, as a newborn he breastfed and was given one bottle of kendamil at night. He was fine and a very relaxed newborn.

at 4 weeks I had to go back in to hospital due to membranes that had been left inside of me. I was then put on antibiotics. I asked the doctor if this was going to effect my breastmilk which she replied no and that I could continue to bf (wish I never listened).

By day 4 on antibiotics my son would squirm at the boob. Belly would be gassy and he would not settle. I then decided to stop bf and supplement with kendamil temporarily. He suddenly reacted to it and would projectile vomit at every feed. So I finished my antibiotics and went back to breastfeeding. He eventually settled back and gained healthy weight. He was 13lb at 6 weeks so definitely doing well. I’m 7 stone so he literally takes everything from me which is why I am desperate for him to also take formula.

Fast forward to this week I wanted to trial the Kendamil again because he was fine on it before and I thought maybe he reacted because I was on antibiotics. He had 3 ounces on Monday. Again reacted badly, hives, swollen eyes and projectile vomiting. I went straight back to breastfeeding but ever since trialling the kendamil he has explosive yellow runs at every single breastfeed. Squirms a lot at night and on the boob. You can hear his belly bubbling whilst I bf him. Has even resisted the boob as if he has ptsd. It’s as if he's had a case of food poisoning.

so i’m just stuck with what to do. I’m loosing so much weight bf and wanted to combination feed. He won’t take alfamino (purchased to try myself). He’s also not feeding as well on the boob because he seems unwell and restless. How long would the gassy belly and diarrhoea last after just one bottle of formula? I give him probiotics to help but do I continue bf if he is this uncomfortable?

I’m just so upset. The antibiotics really messed him up. I wish the doctors would have told me so that I could have supplemented with his usual formula whilst on them. Now he’s become CMPA and I’m pressured to ebf. My HV was even shocked that the doctor didn’t give me that option and instead exposed his tiny tummy to the antibiotics through my breastmilk. Will he ever grow out of this? He was absolutely fine with formula before.

any help or similar experiences? TIA

You can get prescription formula that's milk free. Ask your health visitor for this.

You could try a soy formula or a formula for CMPA

Sorry to hear about your experience! If he does have CMPA then like PP say you can get a non dairy formula on prescription. Soya isn’t really recommended for under 6 months so best to see your GP. Also 30-50% of CMPA babies have a soya allergy unfortunately

in terms of the weight loss EBF-ing, have you upped your protein intake? That is really key for milk production and overall health when breastfeeding.

also do you have dairy in your own diet or have you cut that out? Your baby will be getting milk protein through your breastmilk so if CMPA that will be flaring up his tummy as well.

Meant to also add that it can take 2-3 weeks for milk proteins to leave yours and the baby’s system

There are dairy free formulas that should help with this
