Newborn not draining breast fully?!

I am engorged every few hours, newborn feeds well and every 2/3 hours occasional longer stretches of 4 hours. I feel very full and rock hard before a feed and generally soft after but there are always hard areas and I definitely don't feel he's draining the breast completely, he also only has one boob a feed. I had oversupply with my first, repeated mastitis etc so I imagine it's heading the same way but I'm just wondering as my firstborn always took both boobs and I feel like I remember feeling more empty after feeds rather than still partly full, though I BF him for a year so I might be forgetting the early days..

Anyway how bad is it that he isn't draining the breast fully? I've had a painful blocked milk duct today so been giving the left boob more often to try and clear it and it's getting smaller and is less sore now so hoping I've avoided mastitis in this instance but wondering if I need to be trying to get him to keep going until I'm drained, he's feeding a good 30 minutes each time, can hear him gulping and it comes out heavy as a fair bit seeps out the sides of his mouth when he first goes on and when he comes off and he's having a load of wet and dirty nappies so I think he is taking a fair bit

Sounds like you are doing fabulously.

How do you know he's finished his feed? Do you remove him or does he fall asleep, does he stop suckling?

Do you offer the second breast?

If he's newborn things will settle down soon ish but in the meantime I would feet a big Savoy cabbage in the fridge and stick a whole leaf on the breast that feels too full. It honestly does work even though you'll feel ridiculous.
