Breastfed baby won’t take bottle, ? Tongue tie

My nearly 5 month old baby is breastfed however has always had a shallow/poor latch. Despite this she’s gained weight well. The past few weeks my husband has been trying to get her to take a bottle. She refuses every time, we’ve tried different bottles, teats, temperatures etc. it’s like she doesn’t know what to do with the bottle. Could a tongue tie prevent her from taking it or is it more likely she just prefers to be breastfed?

The midwife vaguely checked when she was born and said she didn’t have tongue tie but she’s never been properly assessed. I’m going back to work in a few months so would like her to be bottlefed by the time I go back.

any advice regarding tongue tie assessment please?

Hi @Treely912 . This was literally me 2 weeks ago! If your baby has always had a shallow/poor latch it may well be tongue tie. You can ask your HV for a referral or in my case I paid privately to have it assessed and snipped.

if baby is rejecting bottle is could just be because she prefers boob and not related to tongue tie. I tried about 6 different bottles and the only one my baby took was Lansinoh bottles. They are amazing, he took them straight away! However he didn’t always want to stay on them for long which is okay but managed to build him up to it by tricking him. I would feed him on breast and part way through feed take him off and put him on bottle and that seemed to work to get him used to it. Honestly if you haven’t tried Lansinoh give it a go! Good luck x

Some babies just don't like bottles.

Why does your husband want to introduce a bottle?
