Colic, constipation or reflux

Hi guys I need some advice.
My baby can sometimes be fussy whilst feeding (bottle fed) he will cry after a feed or during he wants the milk but then crying when he has the teat in his mouth. However, in some bottles he has no problem no fussiness. I told the GP they gave me gaviscon, however I'm starting to think it isn't reflux. He can be sicky but not every bottle. Also he can lie down in his cot after a feed which I thought must not be reflux.
At the moment he is suffering with constipation which I think is the gaviscon, all the poos he has are like hard playdoh looking type poo. He hasn't had a proper poo in a few days and that's why I'm thinking he is crying because he needs to go for a poo.

Also why I'm thinking is it colic because of the fussiness in between bottles, lots of gas!

He is currently on SMA but I'm thinking of changing to SMA comfort colic and constipation has anyone tried this? And taking him off the gaviscon because I really don't think it is reflux. Any advice would be greatful.

How old is he op?

the only thing I will say is chopping and changing his milk can really upset his tummy. I’d cut the gaviscon out and stick with your current milk and see how you get on.

He is 7 weeks old.

Well he was on the current milk with no gaviscon but he continued to be fussy during and after the feed. That's when I told my GP. His next couple few feeds I'm going to try him again without the gaviscon and see how he goes.

Have you tried paced feeding with him? It can really help with windy babies and lets them control the amount of milk they take in, so don’t guzzle it as much - so less wind! It might help.

If it doesn’t improve I would probably slowly switch to the new milk and see how you get on.

My baby was constipated with gaviscon too and the GP prescribed lactulose which helps him go to the toilet a bit better. If baby is fussing during feeds it could be silent reflux which is what my baby has. They don't actually sick or reflux often but kind of reflux in their throat and it burns inside which is why they hate the bottle as it causes them pain. My baby has been suffering this for ages (he is 5m) gaviscon seemed to help but now started omeprazole yesterday x

Also if you do change to the comfort milk it is much thicker so you need to change teat sizes etc too

My DD was like this.. gaviscon really messes with their bowels doesn't it. Solving one problem to cause another.

What bottles are you using? We switched to the Dr Browns anti colic bottles and they were such a game changer.
