Helping a baby with tongue tie

Hi, any advice would be appreciated.

been told my 5 week old has a tongue tie after struggling with breastfeeding for weeks. She has been referred to get it cut but have been told the waiting list can be long. It has gotten to the point where she won’t take milk from me at all and struggles a lot with a bottle. She’s got awful reflux/ wind and is constantly awake screaming.

any advice on how to ease her symptoms or ways for her to feed so she isn’t swallowing as much air? I have no idea how I’m suppose to feed her until she gets it cut :(

Is there any scope for you to pay to have it done privately? I used the NHS for my first DC and waited until she was 13 weeks as a result of the waiting lists. For my second we paid privately (about £200) and it was done at 3 weeks.

Hi, I had this with my daughter but it was picked up earlier. We had to pay privately to have it done because they said the NHS don’t do it anymore in my area.
I tried everything to try and ease it (latch checking, relatching etc) but nothing made much difference, and feeding was painful for me and frustrating for her.
I don’t know if you’re allowed to recommend on here but I used babytobreast and they were excellent. The tongue tie was confirmed and sorted with three days, and she then advised on feeding positions to make things more comfortable.
I’d strongly recommend if they are anywhere near to you.

I paid privately to get TT snipped. I would highly recommend doing so if you can afford it. Practitioners tend to also have much more experience in this field and most of them tend to also be lactation/feeding consultants too so after care with feeding is also good

Hello op. As others have said if you can afford private go for it. I also used babyforbreast! I must be in the same area as pp. Have you tired nipple shields?

Loving all the babytobreast love on here 😊😊😊 she was fantastic. Done and over in a second and straight onto breast to feed. I was worried it was going to be traumatic but it really wasn’t.

My lo had tongue tie but i was told because she wasn't breastfed they wouldn't put us through for it to be snipped. Instead to run my finger over her guns several times a day because her tongue will follow it. I did this and she drank more easily after a while. I don't know if this is useful in the meantime.
