Blood in BF DD's vomit.....

Fed DD off my left breast this morning, winded her and begain to change her into day clothes when she vomited what looked like blood.
I rang the out of hours doctor and was told to bring her in which we did. DD seems ok, not crying and doesn't seem in pain. Doc checked her over fully and said she is ok.

Doc said that the blood was more than likely off me. I have been having a lot of pain from my left breast, and it is agony when I feed DD from it. I felt awful last night like I was comming down with a cold or the flu, I still feel a bit rough now but not as bad as last night. Doc thinks I may have mastitis.

I dont have a lumps or anything on the breast, does this sound like mastitis??
Doc has recomended that I feed DD from the right breast and express from the left breast, but I thought to help mastitis it is best to let baby feed form that breast.

Has the doc told me right? Not to let DD feed from the left breast?

Do you have a cracked nipple that could explain the bleeding? How old is your dd?

How is your dd generally? When ds was about 6 weeks he passed blood which we thought was from me. We later realised that it was his oesophagus bleeding because he had really bad acid reflux.

But there were lots of other symptoms too so I wouldn't jump on it too fast.

Hope you get better soon, and that someone comes along who can help you re mastitis (I kept feeding through mine)

Gosh that sounds very painfull. Poor you and poor dd. Maybe he suggested not feeding her from the left breast, and expressing instead, because he thought it would be nicer for dd not to have the blood. Just a thought.

Hope you feel better soon.

sorry was a quick reply sorting baby out! If you can get in the shower and use a wide toothed comb to try relieve the mastitis. Also I found that if I lay down to feed the baby from the "sore" side it helped just trying to see can /I find the post I did before.

Oohhh lots of quick responses, thank you.

ib, DD is 11 weeks this Tuesday. She is absolutely fine in every other way, Lots of wet nappies, regular dirty ones. She is smiling and giggling away most of the time. She is gaining weight well. I haven't noticed any blood in her nappies, but I will keep an eye out for it.

Princesmel, maybe that was what he was thinking, but DD still take the breast and feeds from it, so I dont think she is bothered about it. She is a very hungry monkey when she eat's so she probably doesn't even notice it.

Soremummy, seriously a wide tooth comb, how does it work?? I've never been able to get the hang of feeding laying down, but I will try again.
