How much formula to give an 8kg / 17lb 4 month old baby?

I am just switching from EBF to formula and want to make sure I’m not over feeding my DD. She’s already quite chunky!

I’m confused about how much to give her. Lots of websites / formula packets say 7oz 4 times a day based on her age, but the NHS website says babies usually need 150-200 ml per kg of weight, which would be a minimum of approx 5 x 8oz bottles per day (and a maximum of about 6 x 9oz bottles!) based on her 8kg weight.

We’ve been on bottles for a couple of days now and she has taken about 3 x 8oz and 2 x 6oz each day with 1 BF at night (although that will probably stop tonight as my milk is drying up 😢 so I’ll have to do a bottle).

Anyone else have a similar sized / age baby on formula? What do you do?

The carton is only a guide. You need to go by her weight Wink

You go by their appetite as the box is just a guide

As PP said I just fed on demand with mine. Current 6 month old (7kg) gets offered 180ml every 3 hours in the day and usually drinks 800ml in 24 hours

General rule is 6oz every four hrs or 6 feeds in 24hrs but every baby is slightly different and no exact rules

I have never heard of this general rule in my life.
I have seen ones based on weight.

A younger baby will be more likely to have feeds every 2½ to 3 hours and my 2 never went to 4 hourly feeds until they were over 4 months old.

I've never heard that one either. Babies come in many different shapes and sizes so it's best to follow the feeding advice based on the weight of the baby.
