EBF 6 month old - formula?

I’ve breastfed my 6 month old exclusively which I’ve felt quite protective over as with my first I felt pushed into combi feeding right from the start. Anyway.. I’m considering a switch over to formula for maybe one evening feed just so that can be an option. Am I giving up to quickly?

  1. He’s been unsettled at night and I think he’s teething but seems to me like he might not be getting enough milk, I would also appreciate getting a longer stretch of sleep as I am struggling with the tiredness of the night feeds. (That is not a sole reason but part of it).
  2. I’m returning to work in a couple of months, mostly working from home and one day in the office
  3. He’s trying out foods but isn’t very interested at the moment, he started off well but then was ill for a few weeks and seems to be refusing solids since
  4. I have done some expressing but he barely takes anything from the bottle and has only finished 2 -3oz a few times

Any words of wisdom or advice would be great.

Just wondering why you think that your milk isn't enough suddenly @Babyandfouryo? Is he skinny? Not growing? Constantly crying for food or super sleepy?

I can understand you wanting to swap to formula feeds or to combi feeding but at this stage, it's unlikely to help with sleep, unfortunately. Formula isn't a Magic Formula Wink

I'd have a think about what you want to do and maybe talk it through with a BFC on one of the BFing Helplines.

Do you want to move over to completely FF or would you be happy moving over some of the daytime feeds and still doing the rest as BFing?

He’s definitely putting on weight and following his percentile perfectly. Just at night he seems to feed a lot still and then as soon as he falls asleep and unlatches he quickly latches back on again. I guess that could just be a comfort thing rather than hunger.
I would love to keep breastfeeding but it is taking its toll a little and I’m worrying a bit about going back to work. Thinking back to my first he was actually similar in that he was up every 2 hours for a bottle so considering he was formula fed it doesn’t really mean he’ll be any more settled at night. Difficult one isn’t it. I think I will do what you’ve suggested and try a helpline
