Can anyone advise on this? I have a very small baby weighs 12lb 3 oz now and length is 58cm she had her 8 mth check and hv is pushing for me to go to gp and then get referred to hosp because she is little. She kept suggesting that I give her vitamin drops because she still struggles with being weaned and she probably isnt getting enough from my milk? She then said I might be better to wean her onto bottle to see what volume she was taking but use formula not ebm. She also suggested we have blood tests done just to rule out any under lying cause for slow weight gain.

Its like de javue 13 yrs ago had same with my other dd and referred me to hospital just found her red book and its spooky that the 2 are so similar in weight height etc! Only difference is she was ff and did eat food!

Does she need vitamins or should I try to wean her off the breast and try ff her to get them off my back?

what about eggy bread?

BITCAT · 31/01/2008 17:06

I think homemade food better but nothing wrong with starting with jars to get started with food and the occassional jar, especially if you out or haven't the time to make any!! I used to freezer my own so i would have supply for couple days and used to buy the odd jar.

Well soremummy it does sound to me like your moving in the right direction and very good that shes interested in the food. I would possibly give vits until established good eating pattern ie breakfast, lunch and dinner, then once this is achieved you won't need it!! Everything else your hv was saying isn't worth listening to, i wonder how many children she has and how long ago that was...take no notice!!

lol bitcat re how many children etc ......

She was younger than me. In fact about 10 yrs older than my eldest! Will just keep on trying her with diff finger foods and hope she gets the hang of eating.

ahh well there you go then, prob hasn't got clue what shes talking about...doesn't matter how much training they have until you've experienced it 1st hand they haven't a clue..she will get the hang of it, actually my ds2 wouldn't eat anything with lumps in it till he was almost a year old and he is fine!!!

That's brill soremummy - once she gets into it, I bet she'll realise what she's been missing!

I read on here somewhere that it's a good idea to always give them something they do like and recognise on their plate when putting new stuff on too.

BITCAT · 01/02/2008 22:09

Well Done sounds to me like you've got it sorted and it can only get better from here!!

I did not give the vitamins my HV gave me to my baby because I took vitamins myself and the drops I was given appeared to include peanut oil and I was also told not to give DS peanut products at that stage. I did take Pregnacare / Mumomega myself though which may well be expensive versions of vitamin and evening primrose / cod liver oil but I still take them now ...
