Weaning woes

I am getting nowhere quickly with my 7 month old dd and weaning. She just isn't interested. We have tried a range of food - porridge, weetabix, fruits, toast, veg (mashed, puréed, in sticks). We have done baby led weaning and spoon feeding. She does seem to show more interest in things she can pick up herself and will bring them to her mouth and have a suck but never seems to actually swallow anything.

Other kids her age or similar are on 3 meals a day now. She's having hardly anything and is nowhere near to dropping a bottle yet.

To make things more complicated she has suspected CMPA and so I'm doing dairy free weaning and frantically looking out for any reactions from things like soya and wheat. It's so stressful.

Does anyone have any advice?

She's too young to drop her bottles ( plural ) yet and certainly won't be eating three meals a day at this stage. It will take while for your baby to get used to different foods, textures, tastes . You just need to keep trying. Believe me OP, my daughter is a grazer and still doesn't have 3 meals a day, she is 20 months.

Every baby is different and they still need their milk as a staple .

It is normal for them to not really eat much at 7 months. It's good for them even to play with different foods so don't worry about them not eating a lot yet

Thank you I guess it is still early days but I just worry that she doesn't seem to be eating at all. She spits a lot of stuff out or just sucks on sticks of veg/toast etc then throws them.

Please don’t worry. Weaning is so stressful, I hated it! Especially hated intimidating BLW meal plans.

Keep trying with different foods and she’ll find something she likes. Mine liked apple sauce, banana, and little bits of Babybel cheese at that age.

I also never understood the massive portion sizes in pre-made baby food as she wouldn’t eat nearly as much as suggested. At 13m or so something clicked and she is now very strongly motivated by food!

My eldest was 9 months before he ate any significant amount of food. He had cmpa soya and egg allergy. Even then he mainly survived on one type of Heinz jar and one type of Ella’s pouch.
he’s still a fairly picky eater but is doing very well at school (year 1) and is fit and healthy so it doesn’t seem to have done him any harm.
They get there eventually.
