Colief and solids - lactose intolerance?! Help!

So my DS is 4 months and has GERD. He is on lansoprazole and gaviscon. We also started him on colief around the same time which to my knowledge breaks down the lactose in formula making it easier to digest. He is on Hipp Organic. We have been advised by our paediatrician to begin early weaning (I am not starting a debate on weaning ages here). So I thought now was probably the right time to try and reduce the colief drops as it seemed a bit backwards to be giving him something to make milk easier to digest if he will be starting solids soon. For the past 3 days I’ve reduced from 4 drops to 3 in his milk and he is suddenly screaming again after his bottles. To be honest when I started with the colief I didn’t really know what it did but it made such a huge difference I continued with it. But now I am confused - if he is in pain again trying to reduce the colief does this mean he is lactose intolerant? Should I be avoiding anything with lactose in when we begin weaning?
I would appreciate advice from anyone who knows as I’m so confused whether his body has just got used to the milk with colief in or is he actually lactose intolerant?!

Oh gosh that sounds bloody awful for you and him.

If Lactose Intolerance is suspected, which is really rare but not unheard of, has a formula with reduced Lactose, like Hipp Comfort, been tried?
