Speed breast feeders!

Naboo · 28/01/2008 21:49

My 4 month old only feeds on my busoms for about 10 mins, every 3 hours. I offer her both and then go back to the first one again, but she's not interested.

I don't get chance to get her weighed - but she seems ok. Does anyone else have/had a speed feeder. My other kiddiwinkle used to dordal for ages. I presume she's getting what she needs - what do you think?

ds1 was there for hours
ds2 is done in 15 mins at his longest!

JingleyJen · 28/01/2008 21:51

both boys were speed feeders - never more than 20 minutes but mostly 10 minutes every 3 hours to start with then every 4 hours good sleepers - good at putting on weight.

I find I have to keep very quiet on most of the BF threads for fear of getting lynched
Enjoy!

DS literally fed for 5mins every 3-4hrs (timed him), unless it was in the middle of the night when he'd happily chomp forever

He still managed to be on the 98th centile at 8mths

LynetteScavo · 28/01/2008 22:54

DS1 was a speed feeder. (Actually none of mine have been slow)

When I gave him a bottle of espressed milk it would literally go down in seconds.

Neney1 · 28/01/2008 23:01

My DS rarely feeds for longer than 10 minutes! When I express, the milk just pours out! I usually get around 8 oz in less than 15 mins.

SkittlesAreFruitGroup · 28/01/2008 23:03

DD has been a speed feeder since birth. The longest I have ever had her feed is about 12 minutes!! And only recently (she is nearly 11 months) has she been interested in taking any notice of a second breast - and then it's only a courtesy nibble She's a beautiful baby bank on the 50th centile for everything.

Oh and she didn't want solids until 8 months, and was still bonny and happy. Contrasted with DS who fed for 90 minutes every 2-3 hours for EVER, and nearly ate my arm off when I introduced solids at 4.5 months.

or bang on even.

Interesting those on here who have different experiences with different children, both mine were/are super sppedy and def some posters sound like they have fast let downs... so....

Kudos to the women with super-fast norks

We should band together and form a crime-fighting unit, knocking out opponants with one well-aimed squirt from our mighty, bountiful breasts.

i'm wondering if it's a boy v girl thing. boys like boobies. girls have got them so don't feel the need to dordal...?!

my dd1 would have fed for hours, but, dd2 was only ever 5mins every few hours. I felt like i hardly fed her at all.. unless it was bedtime then she would feed every hour..

Bluenosesaint · 29/01/2008 11:36

My dd (6.5months) feeds for only 4/5 minutes at a time.

At first it was 4/5 minutes every 1.5 hours or so, but she was tongue tied and it was probably because of that. Now, since the tongue tie release, she feeds for 4/5 minutes every 3/4 hours ...must be an efficient feeder

Naboo - "i'm wondering if it's a boy v girl thing. boys like boobies. girls have got them so don't feel the need to dordal...?!" LOVE IT

aurorec · 29/01/2008 12:11

Are you pumping at all?
By the time mine was 4 months, she'd also feed very quickly. I was a bit worried, and pumped once to check, and got 5 oz in 5 mns. That reassured me!

If she's not crying, and generally doing fine, it seems everything is cool. I'm sure you'd know it if she was hungry!

Naboo · 29/01/2008 15:30

I can't face pumping - i've got a toddler to wrestle with, so the last five mins of the day are to eat my tea, before i hit the sack at 9pm. The thought of expressing simply breaks me!

She doesn't give any signs she's hungry, and she seem's healthy in all aspects - especially as the wowzer poo she did all over her new tights today - confirms there is stuff going in cos plenty is coming out!

Of course she feeds slower at night. Regulary. Wouldn't you know it.

mIne were quick feeders.

Don't think either fed for more than about 10-15 mins (15 was long-haul, tbh). Only ever had 1 boob at a time, too.

Both big babies. Didn't bother getting dd2 weighed, she was clearly gaining

She was nick-named Peter Crouch for a while

robinredbreast · 29/01/2008 15:34

ok well mine was ultra quick then. he was NO MORE than 4 minutes at any feed. seriously from birth that was it. he would go a decent time between feeds. i only ever needed to offer one side at a time too. made bf dead easy
