Sertraline and breastfeeding

I have been prescribed Sertraline for my postnatal anxiety I have been experiencing but 50mg.

I understand it's the safest AD to use while breastfeeding. I took my first one at 4pm yesterday and this morning, I usually wake up with 'leaky' and full breasts. This morning I've woken up with hardly full breasts and certainly not leaky.

I've just fed my 12 week old and she is still now showing hunger signs and usually falls asleep after. Do you think this has affected my milk supply? I was going to leave it a couple more days and see if this changes but this is the first morning I have noticed a change!

If it's the case that it has then I will stop these and just have to deal with my anxiety.

Hopeful bump?

I didn't have any issues but my DD was a bit older when I was first prescribed so maybe not as noticeable. I checked online and apparently it can cause a slight decrease in milk supply but this is correctable with increased feeds/pumping.
I would carry on taking them for sure - you need them and it's important for both of you that you're well.
I hope you're ok x

@afinethingindeed thank you so much for your response. I wondered if anyone had noticed the same thing.

I am only a couple of days in and I already am feeling better mentally taking them.

I've been on sertraline since pregnancy and my 13 months old is still feeding successfully. Definitely worth taking, and continuing to feed and pump, your body will correct itself it's so clever and intuitive!

That's great news I am glad it worked out for you @TheRookie do you find Sertraline has worked well for your mental health ? I am taking it for anxiety

I definitely do, it's been a real lifesaver for me honestly. The only issue I have is low sex drive which I'm working on, and sometimes I feel a bit emotionless but it's worth it in comparison to the hell I was in before.
