Really bad colic - help! Baby screams after every feed

FTM here. Gorgeous five week old baby boy. Breastfeeding was a disaster (he wasn’t gaining weight) but am keeping it up for him, more for comfort than anything else. Was advised to top up with formula. Am using Aptamil ready mixed. Have tried Mam and Tommee Tippee anti colic bottles. Sadly baby screams after every bottle feed, goes completely stiff. I’ve tried winding him during feed, after feed, for ages, feed him upright, tried different bottles but he just chugs all the bottles really quickly. Any advice! At wits end here. He’s also not gaining much weight despite having loads to eat. Desperation here.

Have you spoken to your health visitor, that would be the first thing to do, how are his nappies.

Could it be reflux?

Also worth seeing if you can see a cranial osteopath - some people think it's bunkum, others swear by them.

I'd be thinking reflux or even CMPA depending if he has other symptoms. Worth a GP visit imo. (Nephew's health visitor was hopeless!)

This might be reflux which is so much more uncomfortable for the bubbas.

Try a reflux milk, I would recommend hipp anti reflux.

once we were given severe reflux and then prescribed milks and gaviscon was given. We eventually switched him to reflux hipp and he didn’t need special milk nor baby gaviscon again.

try the reflux milk, if it doesn’t settle, speak to your GP, generally I found my GP much better than the HV. The HV would only offer advice if the GP or consultant had given a definitive diagnosis.

Sounds like reflux. My DS had it, didn't get on with breastfeeding and screamed after every bottle feed. Moved him onto anti reflux milk (we used aptimil) and Dr prescribed ranitidine, both of which seemed to help a bit. It also just improved naturally over time but you're talking weeks rather than months. Sorry, it is horrible for both of you x

I mean months, rather than weeks!
