Lorraine Kelly wrote a weaning book.

She's of the mush it up and shove it in for 'em school of thought, iirc.

I breast fed til daughter was easily 18 months, dont think I fancy it above age 2-3 max don't know why?

VictorianSqualor · 28/01/2008 17:13

Apparently she fed until 8months.

aurorec · 28/01/2008 17:13

I was told that a lot of maternities in France were actually sponsored by formula companies- who then encourage nurses and MWs to FF.
My sister was told by her pediatrician that BF is necessary for the first TWO MONTHS of a baby's life.
My SIL's father is a pediatrician, and he told her that after 3 months BM and FM are essentially the same. At the time I was still BF my 9 month old, she told me I was doing it for my benefit, not my baby's...
She totally changed her mind after her daughter was born though.

I BF mine till she was 14 months, I would have carried on, but she stopped. And wouldn't carry on, no matter what I tried.

What did Paula Yates say?

chocolatemummy · 28/01/2008 17:16

sorry its gone on twice,

I loved bf and my dd did too and as she was poorly when she was born they advised me to bf as long as posible, it just felt wierd when she had started walking and was getting big and I guess moast people around me either didnt bf at all or stopped really early and I went with that, I bf far longer than any of my friends

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2008 17:31

RoRomommy - GMTV stands for Good Morning TV I think. Its on early morning on ITV1. I think the breastfeeding part is to be shown on LK Today.

I can't find anything about it on the GMTV website though.

VictorianSqualor · 28/01/2008 19:10

It's on at 8:35 on LK today on wednesday.

Says here

Eulalia · 29/01/2008 12:19

Won't be watching, far too busy breastfeeding my children before they go on school bus.

I know what it will be though - short clips of slightly wacky breastfeeding mums, the more 'lentilly' the better - perhaps the same mum who did that documentary. Followed by trawl round little England city centre to ask typical people what they think of it. all the men without exception will say it is disguisting and most of the women too. Lots of snorting and laughing with hands over mouths and words like weird, yukky, too old, what do they need that for, I give my kids corn flakes for breakfast - haha! how do you pack it in their lunchbox - ha ha some more like I am so witty.... someone may even say bitty or too early in the morning? but they will be thinking it.

It won't actually be investigated in any serious way - just a load of insubstantial opinions from people who don't know anything about it.

They may wheel on that Dr Hillary whatisname who will make suitably conciliatory but otherwise bland comments like it doesn't actually do any harm, privacy of your own home blah blah but do remember that children need plenty of social stimulation at this age and of course a balanced diet with 5 portions of fruit and vegetables....

There's a vote here on whether we should be allowed to BF over 2s. Apparently it is "extreme BF" - is that something you do while partaking of extreme sports?

Jacanne · 29/01/2008 15:47

Should have read furthur down the thread - of course you all knew about it already .

VVVQV · 29/01/2008 18:26

@ gmtv 'poll'.

Do you know, I cant see them ever doing a poll saying "should gays be allowed" or "should we ban all muslims from the country".

Why are they picking on this particular ignorance????

verylittlecarrot · 29/01/2008 18:33

I can't get the link to work - how do I vote? I can't find the specific page to vote.

Someone clever help me please?

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2008 19:04

vlc, looks like it's gone now, replaced by the wealth one on the main page

verylittlecarrot · 29/01/2008 19:05

I've found a way to link to it

tee hee

get voting!

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2008 19:07

VVVQV that is kind of what I was clumsily trying to say.
Pick a contentious subject and let the world and his wife shake their heads and say how disgusting it is.
Might be surprised! I will be watching.

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2008 19:08

Wow 41% now!
I realise if you're going to vote in this you probably have strong views so it's probably quite skewed but even so...
And of course it's on MN now

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2008 19:12

is some one finding a way to vote more than once?

VictorianSqualor · 29/01/2008 21:22

The voting is finally getting better results, can only vote once though

Yes
55.84%
No
44.16%
