Bruised areolas?

My baby unfortunately has a slight posterior tongue tie and never opens his mouth that wide. I visited a lactation specialist and I’ve really improved my latch and using a shield my nipples are MUCH better.

currently baby is going through a growth spurt and feeding frequently, although my nipples are no longer misshapen/in pain I am experiencing some soreness in my areola from the constant movement of baby’s jaw.

is this normal/will it ease in a few weeks when my nipples toughen up? Or am I still not getting enough breast tissue into his mouth? It’s tricky because his mouth will not open any wider/the shield might be making him slip down slightly and although his top lip puckers out his bottom lip seems to curl inwards.

any tips for better feeding?
