9 week old wanting to feed all the time?

Hi all! Is it normal for a 9 week old to want to feed still every 1-2 hours? At home it's constant (feels like) and when out and about we can go for longer as DD falls asleep in car and her pram.

It just has felt constant since she was born (newborn she was feeding more). Is this normal or should she be sort of slowing down?

It was normal for me, there is a lot of interest (from other people) about the interval between feeds but it's completely biologically normal for some babies to feed like this, mine still does have days of being a total grazer at 7 months.

If you look for breastfeeding support groups in your area you can meet other mums and share experiences, it doesn't have to be 'going wrong' to attend and can be quite helpful.

Normal. Look up cluster feeding and Kelly Mom for breastfeeding support.

Thank you both!

@Fritilleries does cluster feeding last constantly? Like I'm feeding her every since day every 1/2 hours. I thought cluster feeding only lasted a couple of days.

Remember that it's not just for food, also for comfort, have you read any of the fourth trimester stuff? Frequent feeding can also be a way to up your supply so they may go longer between feeds, or feeds may be shorter. Or they may not, it's still normal, not a sign that anything is wrong. Nine weeks is still early days.

I'm awake feeding my baby now, still gets a few feeds, at night but we co sleep sometimes, it's something you could look into if you want to know more. I didn't do it until the baby was maybe 3 months old.

My DCs used to feed 12-14 times per day their first 3-4 months, so sounds pretty normal to me. They’d stuff themselves during the day, cluster feed from 8-11pm, then do a 4-6 hour stretch of sleep, so I forgave them for the relentless days!

It can be normal of course but do you feel there is something wrong?

Does she fall asleep after every feed and wake up hungry? Do you think she falls asleep before she's full?

If you think she's finding feeding tiring then perhaps a feeding assessment from breastfeeding support or at a group would be helpful. She could have tongue tie or some other issue or she could be fine. But follow your instinct if you think something is not right.
