Best time to express?

I am having to top up DD after every feed to help with weight gain - trying to use EBM as much as poss rather than formula - but have no EBM stored so am chasing my tail trying to express after every feed, and not getting much out. Is there an optimal time to express? I have a wee electric pump. Thanks!

I found that the first feed of the morning was optimum. DS was on one breast, pump on the other, and as both were at their fullest, I was able to use the EBM later that day to top up if needed. Someone might have better advice, but I found that worked for me...once I negotiated balancing DS on one knee and manual pump on the other! Good luck!

I found first thing was easiest, but if you manually express after each feed you can get out loads more than with a pump, and its quicker than cleaning pump etc. Its also imo going to boost your supply more as its milk removal that your body will respond to, so hoepfully cutting out the top ups faster.
