Weaning tips

Will be starting to wean my nearly 6 month old baby in the next few weeks. I have older dc and have totally forgotten the weaning process.

This is what I'm planning so far. Can you let me know if it sounds ok? Any other recipes or ideas much appreciated for when she grows.

Wake up - bottle of formula
9:15 (after school run) - baby rice/rusk/mashed fruit (baby is currently CMPA so need to be careful with dairy until she's completed the milk ladder).
Mid morning - bottle
Lunch - puréed veg (broccoli, carrot/swede, mash potato)
Mid afternoon - bottle
Tea - similar to lunch but will probably introduce tea later on after she's gotten used to breakfast and lunch.
Bottle before bed.

Is this ok?

Get the book how to wean your baby, it tells you everything!

I'm doing just lunch for 2 weeks then breakfast and lunch for another 2 weeks then all 3 meals from then on but there are so many different ways to do it!

I also do single-ingredient purées to begin with but that's just my preference.

Your way sounds good!

Also don't forget to offer cooled boiler water.

Boiled ffs!

Do you offer cooled boiled water with the solid food or intermittently throughout the day?

Yes good idea about introducing one meal first then another later. I will probably do breakfast first as we are sometimes out and about over lunchtime.

Honestly I've done all of this before but it feels like so long ago I've forgotten completely! Also much more wary this time as she's CMPA so need to be careful with ingredients.

You don't need to boil the water after
6 months. See NHS website

I'm only on day 4 with dd but so far I've offered the water from a sippy cup after the food a couple of times.

My ds who is now 4 had dairy issues too and we had to do the milk ladder so you have my sympathies, it's stressful!

The only other suggestion I can think of is to mix a tiny bit of your baby's usual milk in with the food in the early days so that it tastes a bit less strange and different! And I do the same food for 2 days to keep things simple so days 1 and 2 were Banana and yesterday and today was avocado (which she didn't like!). I'll gradually mix things up over time.

Emily Norris on YouTube does good weaning videos.

@TheAdorable are the bibado bibs really as good as advertised? I’ve been thinking about getting one for DD2 just to save time so I can get back to toddler but they are pricey and don’t want to waste money!

OP, your plan looks good. Are you doing any finger foods as well? I’d try to offer steamed veg at first with the purées just to get them used to picking things up and putting in their mouth.
