Have been BF DD for 9.5mths then had horrid sickenss bug was in bed 3 days and all milk dried up and DD stopped feeding. Now my breasts appear to have made some milk and have hard lumps which are not shifting? Its 6days since I last fed her so I am worried about the lumps as had a history of mastitas dont want it again. Any advice for helping stop BF as decided its easier now I am working etc to use formula.

Probably just cos you've stopped bf and milk ducts have clogged. Try warm shower (or bath and flannel) tonight concentrating on lumps to ease any pain and hand express - i know sounds horrid but may help. Def see doc just to be sure. Doc prob recommend something to disperse milk or there is a herbal remedy my friend swears by but can't remember what its called SORRY! but any herbal shop will be able to help you with that one.

There is the old wife's tale of cabbage leaves - another much older friend tried it and it worked for her.

What about Sage to dry up the milk?
