10 month old DS has bitten me AGAIN...

I really want to keep breastfeeding until DS is a year old but I am fed up of being bitten.

DS got his first tooth at 6 months and kept biting me but then stopped. The second tooth didn't seem to cause a problem.

Now he has his first top tooth and has bitten me on both breasts. I've tried taking him off and firmly saying no but whatever I do he just carries on and then bites again. I can feed from one side but the other is now just too painful.

I really want to make it to DS's 1st birthday (and then I only want to stop because we want another baby and nothing is happening on that front).

If I stop now does he have to have any formula? If the answer to that is yes then I need to find a way of carrying on for another 8-10 weeks. We're only doing morning and evening feeds.

Any help appreciated.

DS did a mammoth bite 3mo ago (now 11mo), ended up with antib cream from Dr and had to stop feeding that side in the end (have tried last week and reopened wound), so ouch! you have my total sympathy. Prob not much help with advice sorry, I just stopped BF whilst DS was awake and only give him the night feeds as BF, so that won't help you (lucky thing!) as no night feeds.

Could you express and give him a btl of EBM instead? Dr said to me the reason it hurt so much when feeding was it must have been deep wound, so crystalised inside, so the milk kept passing through this and reopening it - might be worth ringing a helpline or seeing doc if you think bad enough?

if/when he does bite again, immediately remove him from your breasts - cover up and place him on the floor *ALONE with no toys**. FEED IS OVER> He will associate the no breasts, lonely feeling with biting and this should stop it. This certainly worked with my dd1.

For the pain and healing side of thing you should get Silverette they are fantastic and you would be pain free and completely healed in no time at all. (less than 48hours in my experience)

Thank you Choolie and Determination. We managed the morning feed today without the teeth getting involved (relieved emoticon).

I'll get Silverette and see how we get on.

i cant believe it... i went to bed last night and my LO (whilst tightly holding my breast) sunk her teath in and i now have a hole on the top of my Areola . My nipple will not soften as a result and is getting very sore. Guess i will be digging my Silverette out again

Think i was jinxed!

I shouldn't have mentioned biting should I?

Hope it's not too bad.

Ooohh,

it is so painful. She has not done it again since. However, my areola has two little holes and i cannot find my silverette - not buying them again guess i will just need to grin and bear the pain until they heal. I probably would have been completely healed by now had i found them.

How has it been for you apple?
