Help! Ds projectile vomiting after breast feed!!

Was feeding ds, he came off my nipple, then he tried to latch on again and he projectile vomited all over me! It even came out of his nose!!!
He seems full of wind, being trying to wind him, could this be causing the vomiting or could it be something more serious?

Don't panic - it's normal

DS used to do this if he was very hungry and took too much milk - this used to happen particularly in mornings so I used to make the first feed of the morning shorter, and then feed him again after a short while. Had there been a longer than usual gap in your DS's feeds before it happen or did he feed for longer than usual - or it may just be the wind that did it! As long as he doesn't do it again at the next feed and he seems OK meantime it's probably nothing to worry about.

Yes - a one off is nothing to worry about.

DH has just winded him and he let out a ginormous burp! Have fed him again and he seems ok now.

Sometimes if you get the technique not quite right it can cause sickiness. A breastfeeding counsellor would be able to look at you and see if you're going wrong somewhere. Lots of assumed reflux cases in BF babies have been cured that way.

Yes I've beem to see a BFC, had some problems with positioning, so have been experimenting with different cushions/pillows. Bought a new one today and have been trying that out, so probably need to work on my positioning again. Ds is now fed and happy again

This happened with DD2, it was a nightmare. What I had to do was feed her for five mins, stick a dummy in quick, wind her, then feed her for another five mins, wind again, then she was fine for the rest of the feed.

DS used to do this after every single feed, I was concerned and mentioned it to HV who said it's very common and "it's not usually a health problem, just a laundry problem!"

She recommended keeping him upright for a while after a feed, and burping him against my shoulder rather than sat on my lap as the bending over can also cause it to come back up. It did get better over time and rarely happens now.

how old is he, and has he always brought his feed back up?
