Ive been perscribed it as I have broncitus but when I asked the gp if it was ok he just said 'yes its fine, itll help the babies cough as well' he didnt really instill any confidence. I am only bf dd about twice a day now.
Would appreciate some advice about how can I find out if its safe.

Also ive heard stories of babies teeth being brown due to antibiotics. Anyone know how this happens and when.

Thanks

I took one anitbiotic when bf but can't remember which one. I found the pharmacist more knowledgable than my dr. My sons teeth are still pearly white though.

Hi - see www.kellymom.com (a silly name for the most scientific website on BF I have found )- it has saved me on numerous occassions. I was told by my midwife only a few days after giving birth that there was "nothing safe" for the constipation which I was experiencing. I have since found out through the above website that there are many drugs considered safe, including for heyfever - somthing else I was told I would have to live with as there was nothing safe ! Good luck !
On the front page to the left of the website there is a section on "is this safe when breastfeeding" - you will find a list of drugs which have been classified as "safe" by the American Academy of Pediatrics. I do not know about the brown teeth issue, but too many antibiotics MAY lead to a yeast imbalance which causes thrush (on breasts and baby's mouth).
