Sma althera, day 5 and still getting instant hives when feeding.

Hi there,

I'm hopping somone maybe able to tell me if this is normal, as my GP is not very helpful at all.
My little girl is one month and 7days old and after saying for about 2 weeks that something wasn't right with her, they said that they think she has a cows milk protein allergy.
I'm on day 5 of this new formula, but the hives on her face, neck, back and arms is still appearing when feeding. This comes as she's feeding and leaves very quickly, part of me thinks it's a heat thing as she dose get very hot when she feeds, but I have given her a cool bottle and it seems to still happen a little just not as bad.

The tummy pain seems to be less with this new milk and she went for a poop 3 times yesterday, with no help (ie massage and leg movement).

I'm so unsure on what it is and this new milk she is feeding less on and her rash isn't going... should I still wait the 2 weeks or should I keep trying my GP?

Has anyone else had this rash that comes and go, if so, did it stop appearing when feeding sma althera, or did it take a few weeks?

Many thanks Lindsay

What exactly does the rash look like? My LO (20 weeks old) has CMPA and his rash looked like really really bad acne all over his face, neck and chest that would flare up during and after feeding.
he was put in Nutramigen which I believe is just a different brand to the one you have and at first it made a big difference. We did have to persist for 2-3 weeks to give it a chance to work but his skin cleared up pretty much immediately. However after a month his symptoms started coming back and he suffered from terrible wind, tummy discomfort and explosive nappies so we then went on to a completely synthetic amino acid formula (Neocate) and he is much much better.
i think unfortunately you will have to stay on the milk for a week or two longer to properly see a difference but if things don’t improve after a while, I’d go back and ask to try an amino acid formula.

Hi @Newmumlindsay
I just wondered how you got with the SMA althera? We were prescribed this milk a few days ago for my 4 month old baby as he was suffering with constipation (pooing every 4 days) and daily nasal congestion.
Since being on this milk he's been coming out with really flushed bumpy cheeks during and after feeding. He's also got watery puffy eyes. I'm really reluctant to carry on using it but we've tried so many different formulas and I know that isn't good for his little stomach either. It's so hard to know what to do :(

Hey guys I really need some help and advice. My 6 week old boy is currently being treated for milk allergy and is on SMA Althera. He is so unsettled while feeding i can just about get 2oz in him, which is the same as before he was on the new milk. Ive tried switching bottles, teats, size 1 & 2 , different positions, and hes still crying and nkt taking anything. Im really struggling with this as i have tried everything and hes still not happy😩
