How do I get 5mo onto formula!

I’m going back to work in 4 weeks and he will not take a bottle. He won’t take an open cup, 360 or a spout. I’ve tried different bottles and different flow teats.

I’ve had very occasional luck with him taking some expressed milk or sometimes formula if he is sleeping. Other people have tried, including if I’m not there and he just gets stressed and upset.

We have now been trying twice a day for 4 weeks and he’s taken about 3 bottles in all that time. Please, can anyone suggest something I haven’t tried or reassure me that it will “click” soon?

I went back to work when DS was 7 months old and while I was at work he just drank water out of a cup. Doidy cups and tomee tippee free flow cups worked the best. He’d drink expressed milk if it was sweetened with fruit juice but he seemed to prefer water. He’d had a month to get used to solid food by then though - your DS will only just be starting solids when you go back to work so you are in a tricky situation. It may be a good idea to introduce solids a week or two earlier or try to arrange a few extra weeks off work.

Thank you so much for your response @xkcd519 we have started him on food two weeks ago for this very reason. Also, he was more than a week overdue and was showing all the signs of being ready as he sits well and is easily able to coordinate his hands and mouth.

Luckily he’s taken to food really well so I’m confident he won’t go hungry. I just think if he would take a bottle it might eliminate some stress.

Ill try the doidy cup - thanks

Just as a little update - he took 5oz from a doidy cup! That’s the most ever. Thank you @xkcd519 !

My DD was the same. Refused a bottle for ever. Had a sippy cup instead. Certainly didn't drink as much as when breastfeeding but it was enough for me not to worry about her.
