Hi

Me again, yet more problems :-(

I'm fairly sure we've both got thrush - lo has very white tongue and I'm getting a lot of the classic symptoms of thrush. GP last week wouldn't prescribe fluconazole but i have been given some cream and lo has some oral gel. Going back to the gp tomorrow as the problem is getting worse instead of better and lo's tongue is still very white.

I think I also have raynaud's syndrome (?) - nipples go white then back to pink for hours after a feed and are very painful. Could this be related to the thrush? Any advice on how to get rid of it?

Please help if you can, I'm on the brink of giving up bf and I really really don't want to :-(

Bumping for you ziggyf, just about to start thread with different b/feeding probs but fear that sunday's not the best day to get as much help as mn can offer as people are out and about.

Hope your doc can offer you some advice but if you feel you're getting nowhere get a 2nd opinion. Keep trying to take bfeeding day by day to try and get through this bad patch. It WILL get better (I am saying this to myself too as going through 2nd case of mastitis in as many weeks)

Good luck

I would try to get a second opinion re the fluconazole.

I had the same symptoms as you and it took a while to get a diagnosis. I never got the fluconazole even when thrush was finally diagnosed (and I didn't know any better at the time so didn't ask for it) - just the cream and gel, and it took ages to clear up - I would push to get this prescribed as it seems to have worked quite quickly for some mumsnetters.

Really sympathise over the vasospasm/blanching - it's agonising. I had this at the same time as the thrush and think they are often related (but can also be caused by nipple trauma resulting from problems with the latch). Some info on this on kellymom.

One other thing (sorry if you've heard this a million times), if you've any suspicion that there may still be a problem with the latch that is exacerbating the thrush symptoms, don't be afraid to seek out more one-to-one help on this.

thanks IorekByrnison, that link is really helpful.

There definitely is still a problem with the latch, I just can't seem to get it right even 14 weeks in! I've had people watching me at the BFN support group so many times and apparently it's not terrible just slightly off. You're right though, maybe I need to look for help elsewhere.

I think I just need to get my gp to try a few more things, anything to make it more comfortable, otherwise I'm going to have to stop and I so don't want to do that.

Off to read more on kellymom now, thanks for that.
