Introducing one bottle of formula at night?

My DD is 2 months old and it has been a whole journey of ups and downs so far, as expected, but one of the ‘downs’ I’m really starting to struggle with is the intense sleep deprivation.

I have exclusively breastfed her since she was born, but I’m now looking into trying to replace one breastfeed with a formula feed instead. With DH going back to work he can’t help me in the mornings anymore as he starts at 6am (on paternity leave/ weekends he takes her at 6am whilst I catch up on sleep as my DD only likes to sleep in 2 hour bursts and takes FOREVER to settle down again), so we are hoping to introduce one formula feed in the evening so I can get one four hour stretch.

has anybody done this before and did it impact your supply at all? I don’t want to pump because quite frankly I don’t like the faff of it all. DD is also quite a colicky baby, will I make things worse introducing a bottle?

last question I promise! DD is going to stay with my mum for a weekend when she’s 3 months old. If we do begin introducing a bottle of formula and she takes to it well, do you think I can just send her off to my mums with purely formula for the weekend? On this occasion I would pump to keep up supply and so boobs don’t explode!

any advice on the above would be really appreciated thank you!

I introduced a bottle to my ebf baby at two months too, and for the same reason as you. When I started I was more engorged for a few days and a little extra leakage but it soon settled. Luckily baby took the bottle okay and wasn't fussy with teats/milk brands.

I'm planning on baby staying with grandparents next weekend with them giving bottles and me pumping so hoping that all goes ok.

Hope you enjoy the extra sleep x

@bedtimesleep I’m so glad your baby took to it well. I’ve been putting it off for that reason but I would like her to be able to take a bottle so that me and my boobs can have some time off sometimes!

good luck with next weekend, and thank you!
