Colic/reflux--how to find the right course of action

Hi

Im a ftm to ds who is 2 months old. He is mostly formula fed with 2bfs (morning and one in afternoon). He feeds every 2-4 hours. Formula used is kendamil organic or kendamil original.

For the last 3 weeks he has become very unsettled during feeds, hiking his legs up after, sometimes bites down on teat, with lots leaking out sides. After feeding, he seems to be in pain and there is LOTS of reflux- always milk and never vomit.

At night, he sleeps well- wakes every 3-4 hours for a feed and is essy to put back to sleep. We cosleep.. During the day, his naps are shorter (unless i nap with him) and is more crankier.

Last 3 days, i have tried:

Infacol, fennel tea, switched from tommee tippee to dr browns bottles, burping more.....all these seem to have helped his tummy and mood.

Should I change formula too? And at what point? And would the change be instant?

It doesnt help that we are staying a few days at my sisters, who had a baby who is 1 month older than my ds. My nephew is of a calm nature. And im at my wits about the constant comparison'oh you're son is always crying' if i had a pound for every time I've heard this !

Just seeking some reassurance that im doing ok regarding the colic/reflux front

Congratulations on your DS and sorry to hear he’s suffering Flowers

Ask your GP about CMPI (cows milk protein intolerance), OP. Naturally needs medical diagnosis but there are hypoallergenic formula options out there. Good luck — it’s miserable when you’re trying to figure this stuff out but you will get there.

Hi. Yes ds has his routine 6-8 week check next week so i wanna bring this up. Does the diagnosis for this involve a test or is it just symptom based?

Hi

I have a 7month old and he was told he had a possible cows milk allergy very early on. They do not test when they are that young usually but they give you formula on prescription to try. If it helps then they assume this is the case.

We tried infacol, baby gaviscon etc but nothing worked until we had this formula. We have been going with it since and he's clearly not in pain anymore. He does still have some reflux problems even now but I think that's just something they grow out of in the end.

I was always worried people would think our little one is cranky and grumpy but it he was just suffering bless him.

We also got told not to just change formula without consulting the GP and health visitor.

I really hope this helps to know you're not alone!
