Is my baby having enough?.

Hello all!

Hope you are all well, thank you for taking the time to read my my thread. I hope I have posted in the right place.

I am a parent for the first time to my beautiful 9 day old baby girl.

The first 2 days we used the cow and gate starter kits (drank a full bottle) 4 days after we used the ready made cow gate bottles (drank 100-110ml) and for the last 3 days purchased the Tomee Tippee prep machine and cow and gate formula.

I had no issues at all with the starter kits, the ready made bottles at times baby would spit some of it during feeding and now on the formula we are struggling.

When we make the bottles it’s a different ml every time, it’s ranging from 140-180ml, even though the conversion it says on the box and Google it should be approx 113ml.

As the bottles are so foamy/bubbly it’s a different ml each time and I’ve no idea how much my baby is feeding and quite a lot of the time she’s spitting it back out.

Since changing to this formula baby is sleeping less and seems to want to be fed every 1 hour and half - 2 hours where as before, it where 3 and half - 4 hours.

Another concern since changing to this formula my baby has only pooped twice in 3 days.

Would appreciate any advice or personal experience.

Thank you.

How many scoops and how many oz of water are you using? Should be 1oz/30mls to each level scoop

It is set to 4oz as that’s the lowest. We do 4 scoops as per the recommendation on the formula box we do 4 scoops.

4oz = 113ml

but depending on how foamy / bubbles sometimes can reach up to 180ml

Congratulations on your baby!
I'm confused where you say its a different ml made up each time? If it helps you can change the perfect prep to mls then 4 scoops is for a 120ml feed. How often is she feeding? 140-180mls seems a lot! The foamy bits shouldn't be taking it to 180ml? Mine was only on around 60-90mls every 2 hrs at that point (aware all babies are different but mine was 9lbs at birth so not small). Their tummies are so tiny at this stage so can only take so much. I would recommend speaking to your midwives (if you haven't been discharged yet) or Health Visitor- use their expertise, that's what they're for 😊
Maybe try making a bottle without the PP machine to see how that goes down? I sacked Mine off in the very early days because she was wasting a 120ml (lowest size) .

It's 30mls per scoop so 4scoops to 120mls. I dont know how you're getting foam up to 180mls though. Maybe try a different powder/brand that creates less foam
