I am going back to work in April when DS will be just over 11 months. At the moment he is still breastfeeding morning and night, definitely, and maybe 3 more times through the day, but more often than not I offer before he asks. He's already cut down, until about 6 months he was feeding every 2 hours through the day!
I'm hoping to still bf morning and night. He'll be at nursery or with mum during the day, and I will be off 3 days a week. So:

  • Do I need to express or give formula for the days when he won't be with me? Or can I give him cow's milk? If formula or cow's milk, should I start giving him it a week in advance to make sure he likes it? (Have been giving cow's milk in porridge etc for about a month so I know he's not allergic to it)
  • Should I still bf him on the days I'm off, or give him milk in a cup so he's not confused?
  • Will I be really engorged or will it quickly sort itself out?

I know this is a few months away and loads could have changed by then but I just want to start thinking about it now. Am keen to hear experiences from anyone who has been in a similar position.

At 11 months, its not going to do him any harm if he doesn't have any milk during the day when you aren't there. He might or might not fancy having some milk in a cup, and at over 11 months, drinking some moo milk as a supplement to his bm would be fine.
You might like to express on working days if he's still feeding several times, but its not essential. I bf on demand on nonworking days, and it seems to work fine.
It does change really fast, so if you go with the flow things should be fine.

I went back to work when my DS2 was 10 months old and I gave him a bottle of formula for the afternoon feed & b/f him the pm feed on the days I was off.
I work 3 days a week.
Now he is 1 he has organic full fat cows milk for pm feed from a cup and I just b/f am & pm.
It has worked really well for us and I have continued to feed him for longer than I thought I would, as with my DS1 I gave up b/f when I went back to work.
Good luck.
