Am I getting ahead of myself - cmpa?

I'm not sure if I'm being ultra neurotic! My DD was diagnosed with cmpa at around 6 weeks old and I stopped bf and switched to prescription formula.

My DS is less than two weeks old and I think he has it, but I'm not sure if I'm getting ahead of myself. His symptoms are

  1. Pooing about 5 or 6 times a day
  2. Wind at both ends
  3. Crying and arching back when pooing
  4. A bit fussy on the boob

I'm totally prepared to be told this is the definition of a newborn but I'd be grateful for some opinions.

Thanks

My 6 week old does all of these things and no suggestion she has CMPA. If there is no vomiting/blood in stool/rash I would think an allergy would be unlikely but obviously speak to your HV/GP if concerned.

My first was like this and no CMPA. He was generally just a very grizzly newborn!

DD was similar and we found infacol.really helped with the discomfort from.wind

These can be cmpa symptoms, they can be normal newborn, they can be tongue tie, oversupply etc.

No one can tell you or test baby for cmpa at this point. The only way you will know is to eliminate dairy for a few weeks and see if the symptoms stop. Then do a yogurt 'challenge' and see if symptoms return

Thank you for your replies, it's really helpful. I've started formula top ups today as the baby has lost over 10% of their birth weight so let's see what that brings!

Just to update my DS does have cmpa and is now on prescribed formula as well as me following a dairy free diet for breastfeeding.
