How long did you breastfeed your children for?

I’m interested because I breastfed my first till nearly 3 (boob monster) but with DS2 I am keen to wean by 1. He is 6 months now and a bottle refuser otherwise I might try earlier. I get no child free time and am v tired by the nights but feel guilty about breastfeeding my first for so much longer.

3 weeks until I had a breakdown

Ilikecheeseontoast · 17/04/2022 19:36

1+2 (twins) until 2yrs10. DC3 for 10 months.

ReeMee · 17/04/2022 19:37

Both for 13 months. They self weaned when I went back to work.

Findahouse21 · 17/04/2022 19:37

Dd1 til 16m, dd2 until her 2nd birthday. I felt bad about feeding dd2 for longer at the time but now a few months on I don't give it any thought

notasillysausage · 17/04/2022 19:37

Ds1: 3 weeks, dd2: 18 months, dd3: pumped and fed that for 3 months

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/04/2022 19:38

Still going at 3.

8MinutesToSunrise · 17/04/2022 19:38

2.5 years

Easymeasy · 17/04/2022 19:38

2.5 and hoping to do similar with my next one.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 17/04/2022 19:40

Both for about 2.5 - 2.75 years. I weaned DC1 because I was 16weeks with DC2 and my milk was about to switch back to colostrum, and with DC2 he was barely feeding anyway at 2.5 so I took the opportunity of being away for a weekend to stop.

girlabouthome · 17/04/2022 19:41

4 years with DS
Currently feeding my DD who is nearly 1 x

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/04/2022 19:42

3.5 years for each, but nightweaned at around a year.

Hollyhead · 17/04/2022 19:42

DS1 18 months, DS2 2.5 years. I loved breastfeeding! I liked the enforced sitting down and chilling out as I’m a naturally lazy person 😁

Flittingaboutagain · 17/04/2022 19:42

I had a rough start and had to pump and cup feed until sorting out tongue tie at 8 weeks. It took until about 3 months to really be fully breastfeeding. So my initial goal was just to be able to do it at all! Now 9 months and even with teeth all going well. I am going to let baby self wean and get to two if I can help it and hopefully tandem feed with the next baby if I'm blessed with another.

Svara · 17/04/2022 19:42

Just turned 5

Doggywoof · 17/04/2022 19:43

I am exactly the same as you, OP. Breastfed DS1 until 3yo. I vowed to wean DD2 by 1yo, but she is also a bottle refuser and I felt guilty. She is 18mo now and still feeds morning and night. I plan to continue until she self weans. They only stay little for so long.

Thursday37 · 17/04/2022 19:43

To 26 months, I was ok until 2 but glad to stop when we did as I just found her so heavy after 2 it was so uncomfortable.

jamsandwich1 · 17/04/2022 19:43

DS 16 months, he self weaned when I was about 3 months pregnant, I think my supply dropped. DD 14 months, she just lost interest and was difficult when back at work to find time to pump and keep supply up.

PrincessSpanky · 17/04/2022 19:43

DC1 4 years
DC2 5 years

DockOTheBay · 17/04/2022 19:44

2.5 years for DD1 (stopped because I was pregnant and it was really uncomfortable!

2 years 1 month so far for DD2, but no sign of stopping. She still wakes in the night and I would really like to stop but it's easier said than done!

Twizbe · 17/04/2022 19:44

I weaned DC1 at 13 months. I planned to let DC2 decide when to stop. She self weaned at 17 months.

Eminybob · 17/04/2022 19:44

8 months with ds1 and 15 months with ds2. But don’t fool yourself that you’ll get any child free time once you stop breastfeeding!
Ds2 especially is like a flipping limpet. I’m sure if he could crawl underneath my skin and live there he would.

HelenaJustina · 17/04/2022 19:45

All four to 12 months.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 17/04/2022 19:46

DS1 3 months. DS2 4 months. I nearly broke myself with DS2. He was premature and tube fed and I was pumping round the clock as well as breastfeeding. I am in awe of people that are able to breastfeed. I just don't seem to be built for it unfortunately.

bluechameleon · 17/04/2022 19:48

DS1 never succeeded, pumped a bit then gave up completely at about 6 weeks.
DS2 still going aged 4.

Natsku · 17/04/2022 19:48

My oldest until 14 months, she weaned very easily. My youngest until almost 3, he wasn't so easy to wean and he still sometimes asks now at 4 years old! So in my experience it was easier to wean closer to a year old than when they're older and more opinionated.
