Quick help for my sister with 2 day old...bf is agonising

I really struggled with bf but it was never painful so don't know how to advise her.

Baby seems to be latched on really well, definitely taking loads, mouth looks right (very open, top lip folded up, bottom lip folded down, all of nipple and areola area taken in quite deeply- I remember that's how my daughter looked when we got it cracked). She's getting loads and there's plenty of it but my sister is saying it's like rubbing broken glass into a blister .

She was hesitant about bf but is now quite committed to it and I don't want this awful pain to get in her way. She says it's hideous for 1 minute and then just painful the rest of the time. Last night she said she nearly broke down with the pain.

She's still in hosp and all the midwives are being great. She's slathering on the cream and soldiering on but is there anything else to think of.

I can't remember the name of the 1st one - it started with an S. They gave me antibiotics and then I had thrush. The pain was a burning pain so I would say it is worth getting checked for it.

BFC gave me a leaflet on thrush today -think that is what i have - did you get anything for it or did it pass on it's own?

caz10 - you sound like how I was feeling lastweek. I went to docs who prescribed antibiotics, which helped lots.

by the way doc said it was a slight infection.

I had this and it turned out to be thrush from babys mouth that had got into my breast. Also hurt like hell when going out in the cold.

OOh yes the cold really hurts. Can't get a bloody docs appointment, aargh. How are you doing amani?

Am seeing her tomorrow so will go through some of this then but she's saying it's the worst pain she's ever experienced

Milk came in yesterday so very engorged. Hopefully that will have calmed down a little by tomorrow but the ongoing pain will still be an issue I guess.

She's quite a little baby (6lb - not like my whopper - 7lb 12 at one month prem!). I wonder if she's not taking the breast far enough down her mouth because she's too small?

I had to have it treated. Was given pills for me, cream for DS (he had a rash on his bum) and gel for his mouth and my nips. The pills worked pretty quickly - a few days and I felt a lot better. You also have to wash all your bras in a hot wash.

Repeating myself here, but someone else needs to see her and the way the baby is taking the breast.....
