Airport security - ready made formula

Hello,

Has anyone got experience in travelling with a formula fed baby?

I want to take ready mixed formula for ease and ideally want to take what we need in our hand luggage for the whole trip in case our bags get lost!

But I've heard security make you taste the milk, but this would obviously mean opening all the bottles and none of it would be sterile anymore!

What are the rules? And what happens at security?

I use a tomme tipped prep machine and never made powder formula without it so although taking powder would weigh less!

Can you only take what you need for the journey itself?

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Which airport? If there is a Boots after security, you can order for collection.

They can insist that you open and taste them all. I had to do that once, it was like being in a bizarre game show.

The best thing to do is order them from Boots and collect them 'on the other side'.

You’re only allowed to take what’s reasonable for the journey through security. Obviously that can be loosely interrupted- what if it’s long haul, need to allow for delays etc. but you can’t take enough for a whole week away. I usually pack a bit extra and split it between 2 checked cases. I’ve had luggage turn up a day late once or twice but I’ve never had a bag actually properly get lost. Besides, absolute worse case scenario you buy formula out there, if you’re going to Europe especially then formula is all much of a much. You could also do a click and collect order to the Boots after security and then you don’t need to worry about that all, although it still has to fit within your hand baggage allowance and you have to lug it through the airport. I’ve done a lot of travel with mine and never once have I been asked to taste it. Usually they choose a couple at random and stick them in a special liquid scanner. Which can take time so allow plenty of it!! Happy travels Grin

Thanks everyone! We're flyin from Heathrow. Will check out ordering and collecting from boots and see if we can pick some up as well as take some in our bags!

Bit of a palaver as we have also just started weaning but hopefully the hotel will have purées or make some for us!

I've traveled quite a lot with three babies / toddlers. If you're weaning you'll need to mash up some of your own food or buy something from a supermarket. Hotels don't make purées.

Take some Weetabix for breakfast and ask for warm milk to put on it. Or if your child is sitting up well in a high chair you can give them food from your plate to eat. They can handle toast / pasta etc well from about 6 months old if they can sit up straight.

I'd second do a
Big boots order to collect

I wouldn't rely on the hotel purée if food just order some readymade stuff from boots they have a huge selection
