Hi Sparkly. Just don't take any more. Yes it can effect Milk in established BFing but as lo is so young still you should be OK. By established I read somewhere it was from about 8m but I am not sure where I got that from tbh.

Have a look at Kellymom as they have a list of drugs and how safe they are and what the effects are. I checked it when I did the same

Heathcliffscathy · 08/01/2008 13:09

drink lots of water, you'll be fine.

bobsmum · 08/01/2008 13:11

I think it's just because the decongestant thingy is designed to "dry up" body fluids, which obviously will have an affect on bmilk. Don't take any more, but you can take paracetamol and sniff olbas oil/vicks etc for the bunged up.

I think you should be fine tbh - it's not going to have a big impact on supply and very very very little would make it through your milk to baby.

claireybee · 08/01/2008 13:22

I did the same over xmas. ds was a little more sleepy than usual that day but not sure if that was coincidence

jorange5 · 08/01/2008 13:28

I would have thought that your baby would become a bit agitated rather than sleepy, isn't the decongestant ephidrine?

sparklygothkat · 08/01/2008 13:28

why wasn't it on the box i feel so crap today..

I think you have to assume that you can't take any effective medicines if you are breastfeeding. It is paracetamol only for you for a while I'm afraid!

mrsshackleton · 08/01/2008 16:44

Don't worry, very very little of it will have gone through if any - you;re doing a top job bfing so don't beat yourself up about a little slip x

Tommy · 08/01/2008 16:54

yes - don't worry about it too much! I spoke to the pharmicist the other day about suc things and he said the trouble is that not very much research has been done in this are as, strangely enough, not many breastfeeding mums want to be guinea pigs for drugs that might harm their baby. As a result they put "don't take while breastfeeding" on nearly all medicines.

I would just stick to the paracetemol from now on theough and some Vicks or something - sympathies!

sparklygothkat · 08/01/2008 16:59

I can't breathe through my nose, my throat is swollen, my ears hurt, my neck joints ache and my head is pounding.

poor you

Vitamin C and zinc is good to stop it happening again - and fine for breastfeeding!

4 head ( that mentholy- stick ) is great to get rid of a headache and providing your LO is over 3 months- try a kids plug in decongestant vaporiser, we used one for our family who all had colds and they are great.

sparklygothkat · 08/01/2008 21:01

he is 4 months old but was 6+ weeks early, would that make a difference?
