OUCH! Biting problem

DS (8 months) has just started biting me, halfway through the last feed, hard enough to draw blood I don't think it was intentional, he looked as surprised as I did. He's had two bottom teeth for about a month now, why has this just started?? What can I do about it? Is there anything I can do with the latch?

I had the same

Got several things suggested:

1)pull him towards you when he does it and say no.

2)Unlatch right away saying no then relatch

3)Take him off and sit him on the floor for a bit (he will scream) then start again.

  1. There were probably more but can't remember. Number 3 worked a treat within a couple of feeds.

How you doing anyway?

I'll give all those a go, thank you. But if he didn't intend to do it will saying no have any effect iyswim? It might be that he wasn't really feeding (it was near the end) and was just having a bit of a chew, here's hoping.
Could this mean his front teeth are coming through? I have to say if I can't sort it out, it might be the end of my bf days , I can't feed through that pain and have a lot of respect for anyone who has successfully fed with nipple pain from the start!

Could be top teeth, W started biting when he had some top and bottom I think. And same as you it was usually when he wasn't that fussed or at the ends of feeds. We used to have trouble latching too as he has never had what you would call a good latch though it worked fine for us...trouble is when he got teeth he didn't know where to put them!

It took a little while to get things fully sorted but it did happen and was certainly less fuss than stopping feeding! He is self weaning at the moment I think, hardly asks for a feed anymore. Mixture of and

Still living up here (god it is windy today) and loving it. Did pop into B&B before Christmas to get the tea towels but didn't see you.

Sounds like it's the same then, think he has been teething recently, although it could be anything!
Haven't been to B&B in ages we've been moving house recently, might go next time you're going though if he's still biting - HELP! Sounds good that W did it when he was bored of feeding rather than all the time though. Maybe he could have a word with T?
Sorry and to hear about the self weaning. T has really cut down recently but he used to feed every hour and a half so really he's just doing what everyone else's baby has done since 4 months! Does W still feed in the morning and before bed? Or do you have reason to think he'll stop all of them?

Fun fun where have you moved to? How has T taken to the move? W was a nightmare sleeper for a while after we moved. But then we did move twice in quick sucession poor boy.

He only tends to feed once in the afternoon now. In the mornings he wants proper breakfast, none of that milk rubbish and if I offer at bedtime he sucks a bit and then sucks his thumbHe has been quite insistant about still having a feed at 3pm ish until recently but have had 2 days recently when he didn't ask at all!

He slept dreadfully from pretty much the time we moved (but cut his bottom teeth at that time too) and it came to a peak over Christmas. We did some wimpy cc to get his body clock back to how it was and it's slowly improving - two or three nights he has actually slept solidy for 12 hours . We've just moved to waterhouses, 5 mins away from where we were before.
lol at W wanting a proper breakfast - bacon and eggs for sir?? T's favourites are definitely morning and bedtime, think they'll be the last to go.
When is W's birthday? Are you doing anything nice?

Friday! Can't believe it.

We are having a big party in Leeds on Saturday as this week it is my gran's 90th and my cousin's dd's 2nd, then W and then on Sunday it is dp!

We ended up doing CC too to sort W out and got back down to one feed a night (he had been sleeping 12 hours before we moved). He's dropped that himself now and usually does 13 hours . Porridge for breakfast usually though he never says no to eggy bread!

One last quick question then I'll stop pestering you! Did you find any nipple cream helped? i currently have lanisoh and bonjela, can't decide which one makes most sense!

We earned it, sleep has been a long time coming with this one and he has almost given up in daytime naps now!

As for nipple cream I didn't even think of using it, you are clearly far brainier than I...erm...put one kind on each nipple and see which feels best

that did occur to me - im going to smell lovely!!
it's about time i used that £10 nipple cream that's been gathering dust for 8 months
Sounds like you do need 13 hours if he's not napping in the day!
cakes sounds good, when are you not in lectures?

  1. Apply teething gel to babies gums 5 minutes before starting feed.

We used 1,3 and 5 and it stopped as quickly as it had began.

Have just tried taking him off, but I don't think he means to do it so he's upset because I'm not feeding him. Feel so cruel

Thank you both! Using a combination of all 5 I've managed to have a bite free feed. He was all upset wondering why mummy wasn't feeding him, didn't help that he was tired but eventually convinced him to try again and we managed it! He's now asleep doing the sniff-sniff-sobs, and I'm happy that it is possible, even if it takes a bit more work

Not in lectures Monday or Tuesday usually and have W too. Otyher days there are odd gaps but I should probably use the W free time to do work....probably....
