Solids and milk - 7 month old

Hello all!

I just want to check if anyone else has experienced this?

My 7 month old is currently taking some solids for his breakfast and I am trying to introduce dinner too slowly. However, he doesn't really take much solids when it's offered, which I know is normal and I have to patient. What worries me is, for example, this morning I offered him weetabix mixed with some apple puree and he took maybe 3 or 4 spoonfuls and would not eat more but started to scream. So I offered him some milk (ff) after and he only took 60ml. Usually, without solids he drinks a very healthy amount, between 6-7oz. Is this normal? He doesn't take that much solids to justify that much of a reduced milk intake? Or am I just being paranoid?

Thank you! 😊

Did you give milk earlier too? I gave milk first then food in between milk feeds

@dementedpixie hi there. I have tried all combinations. Milk first then solids, solids in between milk feeds. He will only eat anything when I offer him the solids about 30 mins before his next milk feed. My main worry though is how little solids he does take and then to follow, very little milk. Would a few spoons of solid food really fill him up that much?

I offer milk second. Some days DS (also 7mo) will eat next to nothing (even milk) and other days he is ravenous. Is there anything he could be allergic to or make him feel poorly? DS can’t have cows milk even in porridge (he comes out in a rash) but cows milk based formula is fine (I know, flipping weird) so it’s clearly more a sensitivity than an allergy. Have you spoken to the HV? Is he gaining weight etc? Good luck!

@PurBal interesting what you said about the cows milk! He's been on normal SMA since he was born, no issues but lately has a rash all over his torso, nothing major, just lots of little red spots. Now I am wondering if it's the milk I've been using to make his breakfast 🤔

@pag2020 I put a bit of cows milk on the back of DS arm to test my theory and he got a rash (mild hives like rash). HV said to keep revisiting every 4 weeks or so as he should grow out of it. Maybe try something different for breakfast and see how he gets on? If it’s making him feel poorly then he might have a tummy ache and not want to eat as the day goes on… I’m just guessing here, sharing my own experiences, definitely not an expert. Fingers crossed!
