I should know this really. Excl bf baby, 3.5mo, gained an average 4oz/week over the last 2 months, it's OK isn't it?

Back from ds2's 3/4 month check. paed wasn't too worried but said gain was a little slow. This has pushed my anxiety buttons because of all the stress and trouble we had with ds1... even though bf has been going swimmingly with ds2. It's OK, isn't it?

(Back later, chaos reigns)

4 oz a week for two months sounds pretty good to me. If there was anything to worry about, the Paed would be the first to tell you I'm sure.

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 03/01/2008 14:16

he's gaining ergo all is well

APeds apt to be a little tactless imo, and not best clued up on BF (isn't there another Paed BF thread right now?)- IGNORE, you re doing fantastically well, good on you!

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:17

He's gaining weight.

Focus on that.

He's alert and if you didn't know how much he weighed, would you be in any way worried about him?

berolina · 03/01/2008 14:21

No hunker, I wouldn't. Thank you all (Peachy, how it is going? Not long to go now, surely?)

It's awful. I know this is OK really. My LLL book says it is. I would tell someone else the same. But after what nwe went through with ds1 the words 'a little slow' (paed was entirely relaxed btw, said oh, come back for the 6 month check, we'll weigh him then - this is also the paed who is commendably relaxed about very healthy ds1's titchiness) have just started a physical anxiety surge. Dreadful the damage ill-informed HCPs can do.

Ah 3 months left- am HUGE! 4th babies eh?

berolina · 03/01/2008 14:23

(Oh, we've got to have his heart scanned as his forumen ovale is open - very common and everything, I know, but there are very tiny nagging worries there too)

Peachy, don't, I'm already insanely broody enough

berolina, you know there is nothing wrong with that at all, and you know weight on its own is the worst indicator of the health of a baby anyway, so even if it was just 2 oz or even 1 oz a week he was gaining, it tells you a big fat nothing without other signs....and your baby's 'other signs' are just fine.

I rest my case

VictorianSqualor · 03/01/2008 14:36

You don't need me to say it, but it's perfectly fine.
Try not to fret.

berolina · 03/01/2008 15:20

fretting long since over - just this bloody pavlovian anxiety thing caused by the merest whisper of 'slow weight gain' since the trouble with ds1. I feel positively pfb again
