Bottle Hygiene

Help! I am EBF my baby but have been pumping for the last 3 months to keep some milk in the freezer in case baby needs to be left with DH, Grandparents etc. for a few hours.

I have found out today from DH that after I’ve pumped he only rises out the pump bottle with warm water, he doesn’t use any soap. His thinking was the steriliser would kill all of the germs Angry

Am I overreacting to think that I need to bin my freezer stash and start from scratch or would it be ok?

Breastmilk has antibacterial properties plus freezing would minimise bacterial growth so I wouldn't throw away your stash.

Make sure he knows now that everything needs to be washed properly

I think it’ll be fine, if they’ve been washed in hot water and sterilised, there can’t be much left on them. Plus once baby is 6months they are eating/drinking out of unsterilised plates/cups/bowls anyway. (And licking /touching/chewing all kinds of objects around the house/out and about)

Don't worry about it but always check with a professional.

Thank you all, I’m glad I don’t have to throw it away! He definitely knows to wash things properly from now on!

It will be fine. When I was in the hospital (baby in SCBU) they said that I could just rinse and reuse for 24hours.
